I Installed Linux for the Vibes

Technology Oct 3, 2025

So. I wanted to try Linux. Not for my server (the very one this blog sits on!), but for myself.

Yeah, I know it's a common trope, "transfem blogger converts to linux", but honestly? I just wanted a bit more customization. And to escape from Windows Hell.

I started with Fedora 42, and being the smartass I am, I tried it in a VM.

not that kind of fedora.

It didn't work. I clicked install a hundred times, and It Didn't Want To.

So, being the smartass I am... I decided to try and install it on my laptop, thinking it was some weird Virtual Machine shenanigans.

Nope. Exactly the same. Maybe I should've tried to redownload the ISO, burn the USB differently or something like that but... I was tired.

So that ended my Linux adventure. I accepted my destiny as a sad Windows user, without any more customization than changing the wallpaper...

Then, the YouTube algorithm, in its infinite wisdom, served me a video. A customization video. It had the vibes I needed to try again. So I downloaded the distro they were using: EndeavourOS.

And it just worked. So flawlessly it actually made me a little angry.

how do people find these things

I started playing around with KDE, dragging and dropping things until I realized I didn't have the app store I remembered from my Steam Deck... What is a PacMan? Wait... THAT'S how you install things???

So after a bit of searching and putting my blind faith in commands from a random post on the wide world web, I finally installed some apps. I got a cute Eevee wallpaper, fiddled with the position of things, and ended up with this:

art found here!

It's not perfect. But it's mine. For the time being, I'll stay in Windows for a while, though.

Sometimes the deepest rabbit holes in technology don't start with the docs. They start with a desperate attempt to try and make your desktop cool.

Oh, and
